6 Ways to Be More Likable
Greetings. I'm Dr. Debbie Phillips, a real estate professional with over 35 years of experience in the industry. Today, I'm excited to join all of our esteemed educators that are on this platform, and today, I'd like to talk about likability. People enjoy doing business with people they like, and service is at the heart of our business.
So I want to quickly take us back to those Dale Carnegie principles. Have you ever read the book, How to Win Friends and Influence People? Well, Dale Carnegie teaches us about six ways to increase likability. The first one is to become genuinely interested in other people. As you are taking care of our residents, we all like to deal with friendly people.
The second one is smiling. Smiling is the international language. The third is to remember their name. Residents appreciate when we remember their name. How can we remember their name? We can write it down. We can repeat it. We can make word associations. Think about Debbie snack cakes. A little Debbie snack cake on the top of a Phillips sixty-six sign.
Debbie Phillips. You've got it. Word association. Number four is being a good listener. People appreciate when you listen. Listen is different than just hearing, and I've got some other videos talking about listening, so check those out. Number five is talk in terms of another person's interest. We've all had our fifteen minutes of fame, so focus on the person that you're listening to, eye contact and all of that.
I'll cover some more of those techniques later. And then the sixth one is make the other person feel important. You know, Mary Kay Ash said, "Imagine everyone with an imaginary sign around their neck that says, 'Make me feel important.'" You're important. Service is the backbone of our business. So join me in future videos as we cover other professional development techniques.
In the meantime, keep winning and keep smiling.
