Stop This Water Heater Leak Fast

 This has to be the silliest design I've ever seen on a water heater valve. Now, these Watts valves, I don't know whose bright idea was it to put this drain hose on this valve, which goes down to here, because they always fail. And as you can see, this thing is just wasting water like crazy because right inside this part here, there's a Schrader valve.

It's supposed to be some type of pressure relief, but these things are failing left and right. So usually, we replace the whole valve. Well, that's what we were doing, but that's kind of expensive. So we've ended up finding some caps for these. This here, bought this from Home Depot. Put a little bit of Teflon tape on it, and I'll show you guys what the results are as soon as I get finished putting it on.

All right, so first off, we're gonna turn this water off. Hot and cold. Turn off the, uh, main water coming in. And we're gonna go ahead and take out our pliers. All right, go ahead and unscrew that.

Take this off. And when you're ready, make sure you put Teflon tape on these threads or it's gonna leak. All right, we've got our Teflon tape on. Make sure that you put your Teflon tape on the direction that you're gonna tighten the cap, which is going clockwise. Make sure we get our cap on. We're not cross-threading it or anything like that.

There we go. Screw it on. I try to do it as much as I can with my hand, and we wanna snug it with our pliers. That's about it. Don't put too much pressure on it. And, uh, turn back on our water. There you go. No leaks, no drips. We've eliminated this pipe, and we've stopped the water from running in the unit and driving the cost of the water bill up on the property
