GFCI Outlet Basics
So this is commonly referred to as A-G-F-C-I, better known as a ground fault circuit interrupter. This receptacle is designed to help or at least assist in saving human lives, human lives. And inside here is a printed circuit board that will detect, rises and falls in the circuit with the amperage and the voltage, and then it will trip, and now you'll have a button.
Sometimes it'll have a indicator light. But very often residents or customers don't know how to reset these. And so this is why, uh, we get so many service calls and it depends on what type you have, but all you have to do is test it and then reset it. And I also recommend that you use a receptacle tester as in any receptacle evaluation or troubleshooting.
Make sure that it holds a plug and you should. You have to pull and have some resistance on the plug. If you plug anything in and it droops or it turns, or you have to wiggle it or move it to get voltage, the receptacle needs to be replaced. But make sure you follow electric co electrical code. With this, you can also have a receptacle tester.
That is designed specifically to trip these and test them. So the tools that you use are up to you, but typically, the better the tools, the easier the job. The more thorough you are, then you should be able to test everything. And if it doesn't function, replace it immediately.
