Identifying Control Board Connector Pins
So let's go ahead and sort of zoom into that area so we can focus a little bit better on exactly what it is that I wanna show you. So as you can see on the left, there is a connector, and that is connector
J512. Now, every single one of our connectors, my friends, is identified by a J, right? So J512, J11, J503, that means it is a connector. And it doesn't matter whether it's AC or DC, they're all gonna be J. With other manufacturers, they might put a different, you know, different, uh, lettering, maybe CN, or even just a different, uh, maybe a number or symbol.
But we use J as your connector. So if you're talking about GE Appliances, it's always gonna be a J, all right? So connector J512 is the connector where the drain pump is attached to, and it is a six-pin connector. And the reason why I know it's a six-pin connector is because clearly you can see that, that it, it is a box labeled or numbered one through six.
Now, if we look at the actual connector on the right, it's kind of that maroon-ish, brownish, uh, color connector. It's got six pins, right? I can count them. One, two, three, four, five, six. Now, from the schematic symbol, you can see that only three of the wires are utilized, or three of the pins, rather, have wires, and that's pin number two, three, and five.
And if we follow, uh, pins number two and three, which is your line and neutral, we see that they go to the drain pump. All right? So those are the two we're concerned with. The other one that says detection goes somewhere off into the wilderness. We're not gonna worry about it right now. We're talking about the drain pump.
Now, when you put your multimeter leads on the actual connector on the board, uh, one thing you have to understand is how to identify pin number one. And the easiest way to do that is you're gonna try to look for a little triangle. So take a look at this. This little triangle right here that I'm circling, that would identify pin number one.
And then, of course, the pin next to it would be two, then three, four, and so on and so forth. So any connector that you find in, in our boards, if you find a little triangle, uh, on one of the ends, that would be pin one. It doesn't matter whether, whether it's on the left side, the right side, and, uh, it's never gonna be in the middle.
It's gonna be in one end or, or the other. But that would be your starting point. So that's how you, you can easily identify pin number one. Sometimes we will silkscreen on the board like the number one and then label one, two, three, four, but most of the time it's just gonna be a little arrow. So that's how you would know that it is pin number one.
