Ask Questions with Purpose
Before you start asking questions, 2, 3, 4, 5, maybe 10 with your customer or someone on your team, state the purpose of asking the question, if you hear, why do you ask that often? That's a good indicator that you could state the purpose before you begin the conversation. So I'm gonna ask you a few questions.
Some of 'em may sound a little strange, but I just want you to know, I'm gonna ask you about 10 questions that really help me find a solution or solve the problem. And then you have the three categories of questions. The open question, which is tell me all about. Whatever. How do we wind up here today? So I'm gonna drill down a little bit to what's called a probing question.
So just to make sure I understand, these two things are occurring and you're not sure when or why. In other words, you're narrowing the scope of responses. To get a better idea and funnel down to what we call closed questions, which is okay for confirmation. I just wanna make sure I understand everything and then always give them a way out for correction.
If I miss something, please let me know because it's important that you get the attention and the service that you deserve. So are you saying that there was no AC the first time they repaired apart and now a different part? Needs to be replaced and you haven't heard from anyone. Is that a fair statement or did I miss something?
And they'll say, no, that's exactly what it is. Or. Well sort of, and you go, oh, I'm glad I asked, but your body language is very important when you respond to the person. Don't be like, that's why I asked. So there's a big difference between that response and you have to learn to develop body language that supports the sincerity that you communicate.
Because if you're insincere, people can read through it. No body language is going to cover that, not for long, so you have to make sure that you understand that the questioning process is a skillful approach to help both people involved or or all parties involved so you can find a solution or something that is a win-win for everyone involved.
