If you can safely do so right now, stop. Look around. Where are you? What's going on around you? Chances are you're in the middle of doing something, whatever it is. Even maybe if it's just sitting and drinking a cup of coffee, but you're in the middle of doing something and you're listening or watching this right now.

There's more happening than just this. The sound of my voice, the seeing me in front of you. There's more going on. What is it? Quite often, you and I as maintenance technicians, we get very, very focused on the one thing that we're doing. The one thing that we have to do. Don't forget, there's other things going on.

For instance, when you're inside of a residence's apartment, you're in somebody's home. They are living their life. As a matter of fact, we are a disruption for them doing whatever it was that they were doing. We are now in their attention space. Conduct yourself as a part of that attention space and the reverse.

Pay attention, at least tangentially to what your resident is doing. That way. For instance, if you're working on an electrical switch and you begin to realize that you need to take the switch out of the wall, turn the power off, but before you do. Talk to your resident. Make sure that they're not working on a computer that's gonna power down.

If you are in the bathroom and you have to spray a chemical to clean something, or a degreaser or whatever it is that you have to do, check with your resident and. Just verify that they're not allergic to components of whatever chemical it is you're about to use. Be aware of the situation around you and what your place is in it.

Remember, something is always going on outside of what you and I have to do.
