Safety First: Exterior Maintenance
Hello everyone we're talking. The next topic is going to be about safety while you're doing work orders and repairs in the exterior common areas. Remember, safety is always our number one concern. Safety has always been, has to be the priority as maintenance technicians. Something expected to go ahead and do work outside.
Okay. For example, you're painting an area, a wall of the building, or you're doing something like that. And if that's the case, you need to make sure that people understand and they actually can visually see that you're doing the work. So the recommendation always has to be that, make sure that you always have the proper notification.
For example, cones, secure a perimeter that you have that to make sure that they know that this has been a place where it's been restricted for the meanwhile while you're doing the work. And that if possible, have management and knock on the door of people as well, if necessary to go and notify them in advance that you're doing the work.
Making sure that you have a perimeter in the area, giving you plenty of space for you so people can come in and do that. And interfere with your work is crucial for their safety and also for your safety. Having the proper cones or the proper tape caution tape security, the area is crucial now before you start the work.
Make sure that you do that. For example, you go to lunch, right? Make sure that area is restricted and you take the picture before and after. Before when you leave, when you're leaving, make sure everything's secure. What I always tell my maintenance team is to go ahead and put as much tape, yellow tape that you can to make sure that it's more than obvious that this area is completely restricted at the moment, and then nobody should be coming in.
By doing that, you take a picture, you're able, for example, to go to lunch or go get material. You'll come back and you should be able to take a picture again and see that the area is still pretty much intact. If for whatever reason that is not the case, you need to investigate. Why did that happen? Okay?
It needs to be obvious because unfortunately, other people may not understand that, that there is a restriction area, yellow tape or something of that nature that is restricting the area to do that. Let's assume, for example, that you finish the whole day. You are unable to finish the work today and you have to come back tomorrow.
And I know sometimes as maintenance people or we want to go home, we want to do that. Take your time to make sure, once again, to secure the area, to put the restriction yellow table of caution that people should not be going in and take another picture. Okay? Before when you leave, and if you have to come back the next day, once again, take a picture of how you found the place.
But the area that is restricted has always needs to have plenty of notification that has been restricted. And if possible, put as much caution tape as you can. So it becomes more than obvious that this area is restricted and it shouldn't be. It should be completely no access to anyone who's coming in the area.
Okay. Sometimes, unfortunately, industry, we make the mistake of of not doing that. And that can become a big problem, a big liability situation, and you just don't wanna put yourself in that position, okay? Be a professional. Make sure you do the proper signage. Make sure there's a secure the area, what you are doing.
Work to prevent possible accidents, people who can get hurt and do everything in your ca, in your mind, in your way to make sure that nobody is. Can get hurt. Remember, safety is always first, your safety, but also the safety of others. I hope this mess, this helps you and continue doing what you do.
