How to Replace an HVAC Air Filter
Good morning ladies and gentlemen. We're here with another maintenance tip or trick of the day would be routine filter changes. This would actually be in a single family home, so there's gonna be multiple ones in the ceiling. Pretty quick and easy. We're just gonna take a quick look. I'm gonna one hand this for you just to kinda show you.
We have one upstairs that's a 20 by 20. Pretty much. I have a little two foot step ladder and I've got my stuff pre-staged. So we're gonna take a look, go up here. When you get to here, you'll see your little releases one and two. Drop it down, and I can already tell you there's another trick for maintenance.
Guys, this has been put in upside down. Every filter will have an arrow, which you will usually see right here. That's the direction it should be going, so it should be going up. Into the return not facing down. So we'll set that right there. Lemme back out a little bit of the camera. And we've got pre-stage 20 by 20 right here, and it's as simple as placing the 20 by 20 back in its slot.
Try not to jam it in there. There we go. And just because I am one handed, it's gonna be a little hard to do, but one other little suggestion will be writing the date that is installed somewhere on the corner. And I'll do that after the video just so we can show you how. 'cause I've got one more to go. So we'll step down, raise this back up, latch it back in place.
All right. And then we'll take this here, step ladder and move it in here to the next bedroom. Same basic situations. Go up here, pop these two latches that slide left or right. Same thing here. This one was put in upside down as well. As you can see, the arrow is facing down. It would need to be going the other direction.
So we'll step down here. Set the dirty one here, grab the new one and we'll show you here. See that arrow right there going up. Face that in. Take it. It would help if I grabbed the right size. There's the 14 by 20. It's good for video editing, but actually realistic. Same thing. Arrow 14 by 20, slide it back in place.
And the ear is running right now, so it makes it a little easier. It will suck the filter up instead of having to fight with it. That's how I'm able to do it with one hand. Sometimes if it's off, they might not be fitting very snug and may fall down. Not a big deal, but raise that back up again. Same thing with the pin or pencil.
Just jotting down the date you put in there so you can keep up with it. Residents change their own sometimes as well, so it's a good thing for everybody. We'll latch those back in place. And that's pretty much it. That is the quick and easy way for in a single family home, replacing a 14 by 20 and a 20 by 20.
And of course, there's apartments and town homes. Some have returns that are in the floor, some are in the air, some on the wall. It could vary. But just one of the quick tips and tricks of the day for some maintenance. Soon more to come. Hope y'all enjoy. Have a good day.
