Following Up After a Difficult Conversation

Check in a few days later—not too soon, not too late. Confirm the issue is resolved and thank them for working with you. Then, reflect on how the conversation went: What worked? What didn’t? What can you do better next time?

After you've had the difficult conversation, it's a great idea to follow up with that person a few days later. If you follow up immediately, it's gonna seem insincere, and if you follow up too long afterwards, the conversation is no longer relevant and it's not gonna be as meaningful. When you do follow up with 'em, make sure that the issue that you guys were trying to address has been addressed and that there were no developing issues from the conversation that was had, and make sure you acknowledge their effort to work with you to solve the issue or the challenge that you guys were facing.

For your own perspective and your own growth, it's really good to reflect on how that conversation went with that in individual, what worked, what didn't work, what you should avoid if you have to have a conversation with that person again in the future. Good luck guys.
